ISZS International Research Program:

Biological Consequences of Global Change

Global change means change to the global environment that may alter the capacity of the Earth to sustain life. Evidence shows that climate change has already happened and is affecting our lives. As a consequence, there has been an increased spread of disease and extinction of species.

Climate change is a global phenomenon and requires a global response. The International Society of Zoological Sciences is launching one such response: a scientific research program into the Biological Consequences of Global Change.

  • Read our Call for Expressions of Interest and learn how you can be involved.
  • The deadline for Expressions of Interest to participate in research or co-sponsor the ISZS International Research Program: Biological Consequences of Global Change is 1 March 2009.

ISZS Working Groups

The ISZS encourages members to work in groups and focus on different subjects. We already have the Bioethics Group.  Activities of the Bioethics Working Group are listed at www.globalzoology.org/workshop.htm. Any member of the ISZS can apply for the establishment of a new working group or to be a member of an existing group. For each approved group, the Secretariat and the ISZS website will support their activities.

Procedures for setting up a new group:

1. If you are not a member, please complete an ISZS membership application form.
2. Prepare a proposal for your new group, including the rationale, objectives, activities and working plans. Send your proposal to the ISZS Office in Beijing.
3. The ISZS committee will review the proposal. Once it is approved, your proposal will be listed on the ISZS homepage. Members of ISZS who are interested in the working group will contact you directly.

Procedures for joining an existing working group:

1. If you are not a member, please complete an ISZS membership application form.
2. Contact the team leader of the working group that you are interested in directly.
