ISZS Supported Research Programs
The ISZS is committed to providing administrative and financial support to research programs that focus on collaboration. Our flagship research program is Biological Consequences of Global Change or BCGC.

The Biological Consequences of Global Change

The focus of this international research program is to organize a diverse group of
international scientists with expertise in many different scientific disciplines in order
to study the biological consequences of global change. The program aims to
analyze, share and integrate international scientific research and data with the goal
of providing a sound scientific basis for addressing the effects that global change is
already having or is likely to have on biodiversity, conservation and biological
  disasters.

In October 2009, the BCGC program was adopted by the International Union of Biological Sciences (IUBS) as a new IUBS International Scientific Program. Sixteen scientists from around the world have joined the program.

Through information sharing, facilitating collaboration and direct funding, the BCGC research program aims to address:
  • The impact of climate change on biodiversity patterns, complexity of ecosystems and species loss
  • Impacts on the populations and distributions of key species
  • The effects of biological disasters such as wildlife disease, pests and animal production

News

The June issue of Integrative Zoology, a special issue on the Biological Consequences of Global Change, is available free-of-charge at Integrative Zoology's Website. The issue was guest edited by BCGC program participant Nils Chr. Stenseth. A number of BCGC scientists contributed articles.

How to Participate
  • Submit an expression of interest to the ISZS Secretariat
  • Submit a manuscript for the yearly special issue on BCGC the ISZS journal Integrative Zoology publishes
  • Read the latest progress report
  • Contribute information concerning your previous and/or current research to our database
